金融英语阅读：British unemployment rate down to 7.7%
LONDON, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Britain for the three months to September declined by 0.1 percentage point to 7.7 percent compared with the previous three months to June, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported Wednesday.The report showed that the number of unemployed people in Britain was down by 9,000 in the three months to September over the previous quarter to 2.45 million. However, The number of people unemployed for more than six months increased by 21,000 in the three months to September over the previous quarter and reached 1.18 million.
The UK employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 for the three months to September was 70.8 percent, up by 0.3 percentage point over the previous quarter. The number of people in employment increased by 167,000 over the previous quarter and reached 29.19 million.
Meanwhile, the inactivity rate for those aged from 16 to 64 for the three months to September 2010 was 23.2 percent, down by 0.2 percentage point over the previous three months. And the number of inactive people in Britain fell by 83,000 and reached 9.27 million in the three months to September.
