Subsequent
用法:①You use subsequent to describe something that happened or existed after the time or event that has just been referred to.
②If something happened subsequent to something else, it happened after that thing.
例句:The parasite itself subsequently ceases to grow and is therefore restricted to one or a few cells around the entry site.(1996-01)
Subsequent reforms have made these notions seem quite out-of-date. (2000-01)
Or it can be transported vertically to higher levels in the atmosphere, where it forms clouds and subsequent storms, which then release the energy back to the atmosphere. (2002-08)
Substance
用法:①A substance is a solid, powder, liquid, or gas with particular properties.
例句:These tar pits have been known for centuries and were formerly mined for their natural asphalt, a black or brown petroleum-like substance.(2000-08)
Snow accumulating yearly in Rainier’s summit craters is compacted and compressed into a dense form of ice called firm, a substance midway between ordinary ice and the denser crystalline ice that makes up glaciers.(1996-05)
②Substance is the quality of being important or significant.
③The substance of what someone says or writes is the main thing that they are trying to say.
④If you say that something has no substance, you mean that it is not true.=truth

Substantial
用法:①Substantial means large in amount or degree.
例句:Calcite and aragonite also contributed to a substantial number of fossils of certain organisms.(2002-09)
The Blue Ridge Mountains form a substantial part, 615 miles, of the far-reaching Appalachians.(2004-10)

Successive
用法:①Successive means happening or existing one after another without a break.
例句:Native Americans probably arrived from Asia in successive waves over several millennia, crossing a plain hundreds of miles wide that now lies inundated by 160 feet of water released by melting glaciers. (2003-10)
Animation traditionally is done by hand-drawing or painting successive frames of an object, each slightly different than the preceding frame. (2005-05)
