HONG KONG, Sept. 7 -- Hong Kong's official foreign currency reserve assets amounted to 261.4 billion U.S. dollars at the end of August, up 700 million U.S. dollars from the end of July, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced Tuesday.
; T) l, `7 I5 d0 e There were no unsettled forward contracts at the end of August nor the end of July, said the authority.
! E- u/ y3 `! `, f2 M The total foreign currency reserve assets of 261.4 billion U.S. dollars represent more than nine times the currency in circulation or about 56 percent of Hong Kong dollar M3.
- b# r9 c n, q8 v* M z V+ j Based on the latest published figures, Hong Kong is the world's seventh largest holder of foreign currency reserves, after the Chinese mainland, Japan, Russia,China's Taiwan, Republic of Korea and India, the HKMA said. (One U.S. dollar equals 7.8 HK dollars) |
