商业托福考试(TOEIC)中的修辞艺术02
现在我们来看一下两种托福听力常用的修辞方法：Euphemism 试比较以下两种TOEFL听力表达方式：
1)I feel sick today.
2)I feel under the weather today.
很明显，第二种表达方式比第一种更加委婉。因为第二种使用了Euphemism 的修辞手法。英语Euphemism 一词于希腊语euphemismos，意思是good speech，即使用比较文雅、悦耳或委婉的说法来代替粗野或直白的说法。Euphemism 的修辞手法在TOEFL听力中的运用可谓炉火纯青。
比如：
1.对于疾病的表述：
1)look off color
2)under the weather
3)not all there
4)long illness ，
5)social disease
英语里常用以替代illness或disease委婉语还有：condition，disorder，problem，trouble等。
2.对于衰老的表述：
1)advanced in age
2)past one‘s prime中华考试网
3)feel one‘s age
4)golden age
5)sunset years
