l The main features of the three-tier system
% R3 a2 W: [8 _3 ?9 o The essential feature of the change in the system is that the old categories of the
5 i" s, b. h8 ~# H0 `1 M% @ Licensed Deposit –Taking Companies (LTDS) and the Registered Deposit-taking Companies (RTDS) were replaced by two new categories, the restricted: F/ g% D" T# X7 U* [) ]- @# V
licensed banks (RLBs) replace the LTDS and the deposit taking companies (DTCS)
& J1 V3 ] w6 K2 e) ^ replace the RDCs.( ]* Y2 V/ D& s, W' _' @& D; Y- f* B
There is no change in respect of Licensed Banks except that the minimum paid-up share capital for locally incorporated banks is increased from HK$100 million

The word “bank” or its derivatives must be qualified by adjectives such as8 v+ y# b" i! }( K

licensed banks. However, terms such as “commercial “or “retail” are not
- x9 u6 z0 U- ~4 q acceptable.

that name includes the word “bank”(or its derivatives), however, the name must be used immediately in conjunction r8 |' j! k) C" x7 p E% s( B
