 1.犹豫不定be of two minds   我打算买辆汽车,可心里一直犹豫不定,不知道买那个牌子的好。
+ H8 d3 E" R3 ^4 e3 F1 q7 B  y  I’m thinking of buying a car, but I’m still of two minds .I can hardly decide as to which brand I should take.& o+ ]! v/ l. K# p) }
  2.心事重重 some thing weighs heavily on one’s mind  K, _0 r. T5 f- ~( B2 u
  老板这几天沉默寡言,看起来好像是心事重重的  {+ O, W5 N2 ?4 z
  The boss is quite down these days. He seems to have something weighing heavily on his mind.
2 _& u; f- X7 F( o' V6 b  3.埋头苦干 keep one’s nose to the grindstone6 ^6 ~) @1 g9 q$ C  f9 G
  这年头,只会埋头苦干的人是挣不了大钱的, q9 g5 |' i' A' ]) `5 {
  These years those who’re keeping their nose to the grindstone can’t make bundles.
1 T" v$ J+ {0 {2 {3 {  4.心凉了半截 cool one’s ardor, A5 i* M% s$ k! a
  莉莉深深爱上了公司的老板并打算嫁给他,但是当她听说他玩弄过几个女孩子之后,她的心都凉了半截。) M1 Z$ \4 ~3 K2 ]/ u/ [  B
  Lily was head over heels in love with their company’s boss and was thinking of marrying him, but the news that he had taken several girls for a ride cooled her ardor.
/ R, D: |, V, U' `8 ?  5.使人大为激动make one’s spine tingle/ u0 R# w: n  Y0 b2 c4 ?8 M4 h
  小李答应与他结婚使他大为激动5 p7 |/ q8 p8 w( ^/ j
  XiaoLi’s promise to marry him made his spine tingle.
/ N! N- M9 |! `4 q3 _; @9 }! _; X  6.怀恨在心 bear somebody a grudge9 i! N- V2 y* ~3 b$ {9 c) l1 E' i: G
  千万别得罪他,他会对你怀恨在心的

  7.感到四肢无力 feel wobbly and rough.
8 Y2 q  n/ Y  M6 r# H& i  8.受冷落feel left out
; U+ |/ U3 m# i! ?+ l* Z/ {3 d  在这样的场合上,谁愿意受到冷落那?
8 F6 v+ L0 h$ K4 _/ C  n4 G5 C  Who would like to feel left out at such a function?

  我是挣了钱,但这钱挣得太不容易了" U; }, }* I9 D) g
  I know I’ve made some money, but it was no cinch to get it.

  我真的很为难,我本应该给他买件皮衣,可我没有那么多的钱

2 K5 ^. {0 ^* [3 x' x  11.苦苦哀求 press one’s suit
8 v7 A& l( Q4 v0 o6 P, U: M, w  她苦苦哀求丈夫再给她一次机会# o+ ?, _, b* O
  She pressed her suit and asked her husband to give her another chance.+ {+ v" w3 B" p% }5 \6 e/ ?- }) `
  (苦苦哀求:press one’s suit. suit 指“乞求或恳求”)6 k9 C( ?) x! ^, ~6 Z" a/ n9 o7 P5 Z
  12. 闲得无聊twiddle one’s thumbs
' p. E! x2 ~* @0 p  这些娘们儿都闲得无聊,不是坐在那里说长道短,就是三五成群的谈论别人家的“丑闻”( G/ M4 A% t8 O1 \
  These “old girls”network are twiddling their thumbs , sitting there either gossiping or forming into groups talking about other families’ “skeletons”! z7 m. f. _- p3 |* }
  13.推卸责任 pass the buck
/ J: \* \& Z  K& Z: `; u' k  当老板问起是谁把消息说出去的时候,他们两个人相互推卸责任。; X: G' I4 t6 l) E) G4 d% k
  When the boss was asking who had disclosed the news ,the two of them began to pass the buck to each other.1 \7 ^& ]; n. b) j7 e0 h# V3 P+ ^
  14.承担后果 face the music- e% D8 {0 o! G$ x) B. l- X, n
  这件事是他们三个人一起干的,可是现在谁也不愿意承担后果  R# x! P/ X! ?8 {
  It was done by the three of them. But none of them want to face the music now.
5 q0 S. [+ e8 a  W' p+ O, {0 j  15.真烦人a pill
2 f) s8 t; M4 |" V1 P  她真烦人,整天唠唠叨叨的
7 k( T. s  V. G4 m% z6 Q+ N3 r! o  She’s really a pill, spending whole day harping and complaining.
  J; v0 g# H3 ^$ E6 A+ b  16.饶不了某人not put anything past somebody, w) v6 V  a6 U5 n, d" G1 T
  如果他胆敢给我使坏,我就饶不了他。
1 L9 d: x* w, n8 p: z- I0 X  If he dare hit me below the belt, I won’t put anything past him.
. G/ T4 a& q% \. K  17.一门心思have one’s heart set on2 t' j1 W( `7 V6 y" c; F: _
  他的女儿一门心思想嫁给一个日本人/ f4 N: F5 Z8 ^) l) b2 L+ I
  His daughter has had her heart set on marrying a Japanese man.
+ b; |. d! b" E2 R  18.心烦意乱 nerves on edge1 m( k2 V7 ^  ]; l8 K+ `
  这几天不知是什么事把我搞得心烦意乱的
! A  Y! S- R* S, R9 F% S7 E' p' c  I don’t know what has set my nerves on edge these days.0 v6 N7 U: z) E: k+ Y7 N4 z
  19.那可不行nothing doing
! K3 e: e+ }2 t, b+ ^  又要用我的车?那可不行!0 v; I$ ~( M( U4 ?9 ?# c/ @/ m! z
  Want to use my car again? Nothing doing.
% R! m0 L  T/ j* Y: _) q  20.容易极了Nothing to it( K' V5 u/ _$ Z
  你能说服我爸爸么? Can you convince my father?

21.到了极点one for the books   他的表演简直棒极了

  Didn’t you smell a rat when they agreed to sell you the goods at such a price?

  他特别无聊,不是讲下流笑话,就是谈论别人的婚姻。

; ^4 o1 j% z* n( d  (此语源于中世纪得“泼柏油战法”。据说loggerhead是中世纪人们用来熔解柏油的用具。在海战中,敌对的两只船相互用loggerhead泼柏油)
