 1.犹豫不定be of two minds   我打算买辆汽车,可心里一直犹豫不定,不知道买那个牌子的好。% b/ ^" a3 c4 o$ E# f& G
  I’m thinking of buying a car, but I’m still of two minds .I can hardly decide as to which brand I should take.  x3 q4 o; b4 [
  2.心事重重 some thing weighs heavily on one’s mind
/ e/ G" |& H5 q; |  老板这几天沉默寡言,看起来好像是心事重重的4 x& w8 C; x  G
  The boss is quite down these days. He seems to have something weighing heavily on his mind.8 g2 P) V6 P5 W: u# W/ M# L( n
  3.埋头苦干 keep one’s nose to the grindstone  z# n; W3 v4 u& k" q; E
  这年头,只会埋头苦干的人是挣不了大钱的) Q" E. S) |, U" m$ ~, q/ M5 i
  These years those who’re keeping their nose to the grindstone can’t make bundles.3 A$ p: F3 |! ^- n
  4.心凉了半截 cool one’s ardor
5 g! u* {  }+ g: R5 n% K+ N: m: _: p  莉莉深深爱上了公司的老板并打算嫁给他,但是当她听说他玩弄过几个女孩子之后,她的心都凉了半截。
5 ?9 |% F- ]7 ~0 ~, l  Lily was head over heels in love with their company’s boss and was thinking of marrying him, but the news that he had taken several girls for a ride cooled her ardor.( p: R* A5 {% z; s* y
  5.使人大为激动make one’s spine tingle% d) k: ?8 s7 p  Y! z
  小李答应与他结婚使他大为激动* ?7 M+ \& x0 Q( P& l
  XiaoLi’s promise to marry him made his spine tingle.
/ D& T' a& y. z9 X  6.怀恨在心 bear somebody a grudge# o) o& t& T' j& T
  千万别得罪他,他会对你怀恨在心的
* |/ j1 Q2 S+ n% T4 ?  Take care not to offend him, or he’ll bear you a grudge.
4 t6 h" f9 B! i9 `  7.感到四肢无力 feel wobbly and rough.
3 [" d5 n( J/ _- n) \4 B  8.受冷落feel left out
- R! s' V8 K+ G3 k& g2 n( J9 |  在这样的场合上,谁愿意受到冷落那?: I3 C( d- }5 c8 e3 C
  Who would like to feel left out at such a function?9 o+ a1 f: O5 g1 D
  9.不容易 no cinch.7 s1 x* s$ ^( D, Y$ [7 B7 s1 x
  我是挣了钱,但这钱挣得太不容易了

  她苦苦哀求丈夫再给她一次机会: c8 E( L) A; X9 T0 ?! V
  She pressed her suit and asked her husband to give her another chance./ j4 a( |5 [/ m) b( Z/ o0 d* i- M
  (苦苦哀求:press one’s suit. suit 指“乞求或恳求”)1 b! m0 \0 [( {9 n3 ^" a
  12. 闲得无聊twiddle one’s thumbs# P1 J9 R5 e4 t* F  Z6 N, @
  这些娘们儿都闲得无聊,不是坐在那里说长道短,就是三五成群的谈论别人家的“丑闻”
( i- H5 a$ A/ c7 w. R; G  These “old girls”network are twiddling their thumbs , sitting there either gossiping or forming into groups talking about other families’ “skeletons”( D8 c& @: H- I, k/ H
  13.推卸责任 pass the buck
! ~+ Y8 K+ B# {: g9 c' S; T# v  d  当老板问起是谁把消息说出去的时候,他们两个人相互推卸责任。
' s7 z  E( `/ g; D  ]& g! ]  When the boss was asking who had disclosed the news ,the two of them began to pass the buck to each other.% W6 |& |% q. M! X1 P/ j! Y
  14.承担后果 face the music# \+ ]/ X) F8 L6 M9 l1 }2 B
  这件事是他们三个人一起干的,可是现在谁也不愿意承担后果2 o: j* W! w" _- O; V/ G
  It was done by the three of them. But none of them want to face the music now.
  D" v  H8 ^+ u. Q: O/ N  15.真烦人a pill
9 p9 R2 u- [4 D$ N. @  她真烦人,整天唠唠叨叨的" z" Y/ R; D. f5 J
  She’s really a pill, spending whole day harping and complaining.. q# v9 m/ [: A. j
  16.饶不了某人not put anything past somebody
! b8 a) H7 S: a4 s2 j; r5 e  如果他胆敢给我使坏,我就饶不了他。& j" y  Q' Z% ?$ s0 g
  If he dare hit me below the belt, I won’t put anything past him.9 k1 X$ F6 E6 A# h9 T# V% N* f+ L
  17.一门心思have one’s heart set on
8 r6 Q) [% e$ }0 w! V& ]% H& ^  他的女儿一门心思想嫁给一个日本人
5 e9 j+ r, E$ a! w  His daughter has had her heart set on marrying a Japanese man.
  W5 l+ ]5 E) M/ g5 V0 _: j  18.心烦意乱 nerves on edge/ I7 F: p8 ~# J9 B/ _' Z
  这几天不知是什么事把我搞得心烦意乱的
( L% L9 p  w0 X, @  I don’t know what has set my nerves on edge these days.
* _. ~. ~3 S; w) {# F# J' i  19.那可不行nothing doing
5 ]; @6 }" A& ^* R+ p  又要用我的车?那可不行!
6 P& R( A8 _2 T/ @: c( v  Want to use my car again? Nothing doing.

  你能说服我爸爸么? Can you convince my father?

  His performance was really one for the books., g7 q  N6 U5 X. L
  22.觉得可疑了smell a rat
! C  \* }, S$ A, w3 I3 U0 a( v  当他们同意把那批货以那样的价格卖给你的时候,你难道没有感到有些可疑么?/ M) H# u( I& P# A0 }
  Didn’t you smell a rat when they agreed to sell you the goods at such a price?; a, e# t5 O3 G
  23.敬而远之give a wide berth to. l6 [" y  b4 z) d: q3 Y, m
  对他那号人,你还是敬而远之为好
9 B6 u% a! q; |. }( V( I  You’d better give a wide berth to a guy of his sort.! F8 x9 w" D" k' Z6 M

  (此语源于中世纪得“泼柏油战法”。据说loggerhead是中世纪人们用来熔解柏油的用具。在海战中,敌对的两只船相互用loggerhead泼柏油)
