an important role in a worker's comfort, psychological well-being, concentration, and

be inappropriate for anyone but the worker to make such choices.

company. Admittedly, the consequences of most workspace choices would not be so tar-

that one person's rights extend only so far as the next person's nose (or ears. or eyes). A
( o! w4 R3 H4 l0 R5 }second problem with affording too much workspace autonomy occurs when workspaces
& `7 b9 |. Z  K# U8 ?are not clearly delineated—by walls and doors—or when workers share an immediate . F8 [$ U# a  h
workspace. In such cases, giving all workers concurrent authority would perpetuate / @8 ?" |4 Y  x8 x8 v; b8 L
conflict and undermine productivity.
4 s% U% E. E6 P) C/ D4 \6 V3 G& Y      in conclusion, although employees should have the freedom to arrange their work 1 O* D. Q! h, D6 {
areas, this freedom is not absolute. Managers would be well-advised to arbitrate
