  But even if he hires an American, I'll probably be transferred to our American office.! _6 X) \# q- v
  CAROL: Where will it be?
; d4 a: A: \, r% f  JOHN: We aren't sure yet. Maybe L.A. I think L.A. would be the best idea.9 P, O/ _% q+ G
  CAROL: Is it because of trade negotiations that we can start selling in the U.S.?6 v5 {! E' i$ [' f5 [) k0 {7 M
  JOHN: Yes, the recent agreements between the two governments have changed everything.8 Y/ S8 P$ q, c; ?; H) B9 Q" h- G, L
  Now we have the right to sell in America at a much lower tariff.
0 }- I+ P( E4 E% f. @  It's going to be good. We can compete more directly with them.8 A7 G! }9 e$ E3 C) J3 P
  CAROL: Great./ t" D& m1 M/ C  U" P* h5 N
  JOHN: Our computers have a high level of quality now.
2 p' j2 c( B0 C  We can demonstrate it. And our prices will be good.7 M( L7 K. P1 K/ s0 [7 u# Q
  So I think it will really be worthwhile.
- t8 j' Y3 o* \7 @# }  CAROL: You seem excited about it.- g( r( a! x3 e( ]
  JOHN: Well, you know I studied marketing in America.
  \, W; Q' b3 V1 f  {. i  So maybe the thought of going back there to promote our brand is kind of exciting to me.9 y9 D5 l. H4 O' A( V5 l1 q. Q
  I'd love to be part of the team.7 J* N1 z% J; j: N3 j
  CAROL: Do you honestly think we can compete though? All the computer giants are there.% p- b& v% ]& m( H
  JOHN: Yes, I do. I think we can compete. I think we can make a name for ourselves.
+ z2 c& C; k3 `1 @/ O# v8 ^! I) [  It will be hard at first. But if we develop a good advertising campaign,
& g5 T0 d) ?) \( I; y" r. V  I think we can break into the market.
  x5 l4 Q. V! K  CAROL: The company will have to choose a good advertising firm.
, K; ?8 R/ ~5 m( k$ q8 `  And then there's the problem of quality.
$ |  @+ X: H* {  How do we convince American buyers that our quality is good?
% s( S9 m3 |) `% ]. i  JOHN: It takes some time.

  people won't accept a high tech product unless they recognize the name.6 g: j/ A0 X$ Y9 _9 K7 u( r
  Name recognition is crucial.2 S7 R9 n3 e) A- U6 d3 v, h3 _; f( ?
  CAROL: Well, I hope it all works out, John.  ^$ c! I: I" s  Y2 N$ N
  I think if you're part of the team, things will go well.1 n6 e' z1 U' x9 f8 u; e% N1 H1 c
  But you know we'd all miss you here. So I won’t say I'm happy to think that you’re leaving.$ h2 p- h& K  k. B* z& O
  JOHN: That's very nice of you to say.
" W9 c) p' e1 D* A0 \# o  But if we set up an office there in the States, maybe you could try to become part of it.

+ t7 E9 K  r; a" r  I'm dedicated to the company, but I’m not going to leave Taiwan. I'm happy here.9 o( r/ \/ L, s8 h$ S. j8 D
