l The main features of the three-tier system
6 o$ [9 J- p; A0 ^' ^ The essential feature of the change in the system is that the old categories of the
' R" ^/ n( z. k/ A1 m Licensed Deposit –Taking Companies (LTDS) and the Registered Deposit-taking Companies (RTDS) were replaced by two new categories, the restricted, |: G, [7 [( ~; k
licensed banks (RLBs) replace the LTDS and the deposit taking companies (DTCS)

There is no change in respect of Licensed Banks except that the minimum paid-up share capital for locally incorporated banks is increased from HK$100 million, J6 v% w W, G+ d% T9 E' d
to HK$150 million.
1 p6 R2 _9 a9 u6 O' ^0 P2 h The word “bank” or its derivatives must be qualified by adjectives such as
% E4 }0 O$ L, A+ P “merchant” or “investment”, so that they are clearly differentiated from7 f% f) M- z$ U9 ?0 \7 j
licensed banks. However, terms such as “commercial “or “retail” are not
. m. a E0 x; N& i acceptable.

" M( g, z# N3 p6 g8 Z that name includes the word “bank”(or its derivatives), however, the name must be used immediately in conjunction3 R, A8 |2 v5 i1 ^! s* p
with the phrase “restricted licensed bank”. |
