1、In his eight-point proposal President Jiang made it clear that under the concept of one China, anything, save the independence of Taiwan, can be discussed. If one admits that there is but only one China, then there is no such thing as Taiwan joining the United Nations. Recent years has witnessed more frequent non- governmental exchanges and closer economic ties across the Taiwan Straits. The reunification of the Chinese nation is a general trend which cannot be blocked. We hope that the Taiwan authorities will comply with the aspirations of the people and take concrete action to end hostility and promote the expansion of the relations between Taiwan and the mainland.
