As is apparently showed in the chart above, the number of scientific breakthroughs over the past years in China has increased to 204 cases in the year of 2004, which is a shocking news to people both at home and abroad. People may wonder what is behind the great achievement.
The main reasons for this increase can be explained as follows. First, science and technology has become productivity. Over the years, more and more people realize that we are living in an era of knowledge explosion. If we want to survive and develop in the current world, we must keep pace with the development of science and technology. Thus, scientific breakthrough crop up by each passing day. Second, the Opening-up and Reform has also brought about the increase of scientific breakthroughs. It has improved the development of China´s economy, which has laid a solid foundation for the increase of scientific breakthroughs. In sum, both factors are the preconditions of the tremendous increase of scientific breakthroughs.
As our country develops fast, more scientific breakthroughs will come into our life.

As is shown by the graph, there has been a sharp decline in the number of film-goers during the period from 1992 to 2002, adding up to 20,000 in 2002. On the other hand, the number of TV watchers has steadily increased in the last decade, reaching 150,000 in 2002. Finally, it is interesting to note that there were as many film-goers as TV watchers in year 1998.
I think there are two reasons for the change. Firstly, TV is not only a convenient entertainment, but a comparatively cheap one. There is no point in arranging transport. And one needn´t pay for expensive seats at the cinema. Secondly, TV makes it possible for one to keep track of current events and the latest developments in science and technology. As a consequence, most people prefer to stay at home, watching TV, rather than go out to the cinema.
Personally, there are still a lot of people who enjoy watching films. They argue that the film is a fascinating form of art. Sitting comfortably in the cinema, one can appreciate the latest movies, which will usually be shown on TV far later on. Therefore, I trust the number of film-goers will be on the rise in the future.

Since China opened its door to the outside world in 1979, Beijing has made remarkable achievements in attracting foreign business to invest in joint ventures. According to the pie chart, Hong Kong investment ranks first, accounting for 44 percent of the total. Japan´s investment makes up 19.2 percent in second position. The third is the United States at 16 percent.
It is generally believed that Beijing benefits a lot from the outside investment. In the first place, a large number of joint ventures contribute greatly to the development of Capital Economy. Secondly, the foreign-invested enterprises offer a lot of jobs to the residents in Beijing. This in turn relieves the problem of laid-off workers in the city. Finally, the high-tech enterprises in the capital will grow rapidly which will improve the competitive competence of Beijing.
As far as the measures to attract outside investment are concerned, I think they are as follows. On the one hand, we should make special efforts to improve the investment environment. On the other hand, we should take advantage of this opportunity to run the present foreign-invested enterprises efficiently.

True beauty comes from one´s actions rather than one´s appearance.
While most of us enjoy pretty appearances, it is more important to cultivate a clean and beautiful soul. Only such souls can create a genuinely beautiful society. Chinese traditionally uphold the virtues of modesty, generosity, broad-mindedness, and politeness. Confucian teaching such as: “do not do to others as you would not want done to you” is wise and worthwhile. If people embody this teaching, our society can only improve and progress.
We should behave ourselves in the public and set good examples for others. We should always be willing and able to learn from those around us who do good to our society.
