# a) \  Q1 [( Q/ Q! U(一)出题形式:主旨大意题命题形式主要有三大类:一类是概括中心思想(main idea)型;一类是确定文章标题或主题(topic / title / headline)型;还有一类是询问文章的写作目的(purpose)。

: L# S7 d& A, w/ r& L7 }2 n' V  (二)答案位置:大部分文章都有主题句(topic sentence),主题句表达了文章的中心思想(main idea),找到了主题句,也就抓住了文章的主旨大意。因此,“主题句定位法”是解答主旨大意题的一种行之有效的方法。主题句呈现形式通常有以下几种:7 x8 C6 ~6 Y" I, I( j
  1)在开头出现;
9 P8 x, _4 {: h* e# N  2)在结尾出现;9 [" g0 V6 _. M6 E  n
  3)在开头和结尾同时出现,首尾呼应;

- {1 E8 G  F! l  n% e, u* f  4)有些文章的中心思想贯穿全文,并没有用一句话明确表达出来,这就要求学生学会归纳概括。

  6   If you ask people to name the one person who had the greatest effect on the English language, you will get answers like “Shakespeare,” “Samuel Johnson,” and “Webster”, but none of these men had any effect at all compared to a man who didn’t even speak English ----William the Conqueror.
/ a8 y3 A2 e* A1 W6 s7 }7 ], ^  Before 1066, in the land we now call Great Britain lived peoples belonging to two major language groups. In the west-central region lived the Welsh, who spoke a Celtic language, and in the north lived the Scots, whose language, though not the same as Welsh, was also Celtic. In the rest of the country lived the Saxons, actually a mixture of Anglos, Saxons, and other Germanic and Nordic peoples, who spoke what we now call Anglo-Saxon (or Old English), a Germanic language. If this state of affairs had lasted, English today would be close to German.6 k# \7 j2 \6 x! q- Y
  But this state of affairs did not last. In 1066 the Normans led by William defeated the Saxons and began their rule over England. For about a century, French became the official language of England while Old English became the language of peasants. As a result, English words of politics and the law come from French rather than German. In some cases, modern English even shows a distinction () between upper-class French and lower-class Anglo-Saxon in its words. We even have different words for some foods, meat in particular, depending on whether it is still out in the field or at ready to be cooked, which shows the fact that the Saxon peasants were doing the farming, while the upper-class Normans were doing most of the eating.

G! z- p8 K( Z3 c, {  When Americans visit Europe for the first time, they usually find Germany more “foreign” than France because the German they see on signs and advertisements seems much more different from English language is actually Germanic in its beginning and that the French influences are all the result of one man’s ambition.
