influence of this or that individual writers. But an effect can become __2__

in an intensified form, and so on indefinitely. A man may take drink __4__" k/ N. A Z( S2 G
because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the most __5__' E. z" ]+ I. |! A" i) r! M% V
completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is
7 Z" s! x1 k# |+ @. B happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate: e5 l! X- X8 [# B
because our thoughts are foolish, but the sloven of our language __6__% y7 I# v" l& e
makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. The point is that the$ ?( O; z" Q0 n- m6 K! B* X" I0 E
process is irreversible. Modern English, especially written English, __7__$ n, T5 }. ]4 m' b# w6 r3 h
is full of bad habits which spread by imitation and which can be
/ [* J8 k3 k4 C+ @; g+ y+ H$ k8 N9 e avoided if one is willing to take the necessary trouble. If one gets
( C- D- ?, x% s3 N- \7 z% I8 Q rid of these habits one can think more clearly, and think clearly is a __8__

against bad English is not frivolous and is not the exclusive concerning __9__3 U4 c( c( J }# A( F1 ~
