G: v; \& M% ]& s5 c7 v Last week, a group of us students, who are ready to leave the campus and face the real world, talked about an issue: What kind of jobs we should take, part-time (on-the-side) extemporaneous jobs or stable fulltime jobs? Some think that the former best suit them because they can get more experience by doing various kinds of works while others maintain that the latter renders them more benefits. I was the side of the latter since I am convinced that "A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss."7 j2 S* U9 S6 o, ]8 ~* I2 N6 }
First things first, by sticking to one job, we can develop single-minded devotion and focus our attention, energy and resources on what we are doing. Wal-Mart, the number one retailer in the world, is a good example. It might have stood a lot of chances to cash in on the other fields, such as financials and real estate investment. In stead of following the prevailing business trends, the management of Malt-Mart keeps devoting single-mindedly to what is good at - retailing, and has clearly in mind consumers' needs, and serves them whole-heartedly and has secured its leading position in the retail business. And Malt-Mart is among the few that have been luckily spared by this global economic crisis. The case tells us how important perseverance is in projecting a correct business strategy." In the second place, we can acquire the skills needed to achieve professional proficiency, if we are responsible for our choice and put ourselves into it. Take my aunt, Nancy for example. She is a job hopper who has changed dozens of jobs in the past few years and succeeded in none of them .However, my uncle Eric, a bank cashier in China Commercial Bank, sticks to one job and spares no efforts or time to practice his skills and finally achieve success by being promoted to an executive position recently. And he has the greatest satisfaction and self-fulfillment from his present job. He now strongly believes that he will achieve greater success if he continues to do one job well at a time." Last but not the least, as it is known to all, only when we concentrate on one job and spend our time on it can we as a nation increase our country's power. Since China implemented the opening-up policy some 30 years ago, we the Chinese have been focusing ourselves on economic construction and finally we have worked a wonder - an unprecedented economic growth rate. And we bettered the well-being of the people and improved our country's image on the international stage.

And his words are indeed thought-provoking and educational in that they really can help the growth of a good business, of a person and of course of a nation. Indeed, a rolling stone never gathers moss. |
